Chris Fleming, assistant coach of the Chicago Bulls, will not face discipline from the league following an incident involving contact with John Collins during Wednesday night’s game against Utah, as stated by Bulls coach Billy Donovan on Thursday. Donovan mentioned that the Bulls had been in contact with the league office, and there was no indication of any fine or suspension for Fleming.

The altercation occurred late in the game, when DeMar DeRozan was double-teamed and fouled with 9.3 seconds remaining, leading to a heated exchange. Fleming’s attempt to restrain Collins and push him away prompted Collins to confront the coach.

Technical fouls were issued to Fleming, Collins and Torrey Craig, and the Jazz had an opportunity to win the game. However, the Bulls secured the victory when Collin Sexton missed a 3-pointer with 2 seconds left.

Donovan described the incident as “unfortunate” and believed that Fleming’s intentions were aimed at defusing the situation. He acknowledged that the situation escalated despite Fleming’s efforts to control it, emphasizing the need for the team to focus on managing their bench and players. Donovan expressed confidence that Fleming never intended to engage in a physical altercation.
